Saw New Moon today in a theatre full of teenage girls. It was such a fun audience. Lots of laughs. Awwwws and yummmms (when Jacob had his shirt off).

The Twilight series of movies are fun. They’re not greatly acted, they don’t require deep introspective thinking. They’re overly melodramatic. The CGI can be cheesy. But they’re fun! They’re a healthy distraction. They’re harmless.

A few scenes hang in my mind. Edward getting out of his car at school (a black Volvo SUV), walking slow-mo toward Bella with that music and the wind blowing through his hair. I was thinking Holy Shit! The tiny hairs on my arms actually stood erect. The audience giggled. I got caught up in the moment, and it felt good.

SPOILER ALERT: Don’t read if you haven’t seen the movie!!!!!

The ending was spectacular. I haven’t read the books, so it was a complete surprise to me.  Bella appears to have finally talked Edward into making her a vampire. They were alone in the woods. I could feel the cool damp air. He pauses, gives her a dramatic lusty look, pauses some more, and asks “Bella, will you marry me?”  OH MY GOD. Everyone in the audience gasped, and then the screen went black. In a split second. That was the end of the movie. I was excited and sad at the same time.

Jacob appeared many times with no shirt. Tanned. Buff. That fake long hair cut off. My friends are on Team Jacob now. I’m sticking with the strangely handsome Edward.
